How to prevent Plumbing Problems during a Vacation

Plumbing problems can happen anytime, and sad to say family vacation season is no exception.

And this is the reason why every homeowner should make sure that every plumbing fixture is fine in the house before leaving for a vacation especially an extended one.

Patch.com offered some tips for homeowners. Chula Vista Plumber AceContractor 

“Turn off the main water valve that brings water into your home. With the water supply turned off, any leaks or bursts that may unexpectedly occur should not result in unlimited amounts of water pouring into your home while you are away.”

Don’t let it Ruin a Holiday Break

High Priority Plumbing also shared other plumbing pointers prior to leaving a home for an extended trip out of town.

“Test your sump pump. If you have a basement or crawl space, the sump pump is designed to help keep the basement or area under the home dry and to prevent it from flooding. The weather man might not be accurate with his forecast for rain in so many days. And if it rains and your sump pump doesn’t work, you have a flood. To avoid this, you will want to make sure the sump pump is operating properly.”

For Vacation Homes

Vacation homes on the other hand need another type of caring since it only gets lived in during vacation season.

High Priority Plumbing gave some tips on how to winterize a home plumbing season.

“That whirlpool tub is next. If there’s an air pump, I turn it on to forcibly eject any trapped water and then I’ll use the pony pump, with rubber hoses attached, to force the RV antifreeze through one of the jets until I see it coming out of the suction strainer. Let it drain (approximately 10 minutes) and then turn on the faucet to clean up any surface RV antifreeze remaining.”
